May 1, 1970: Joe Orton’s play, Loot, released in cinemas

Loot-1970Loot is a British comedy film directed by Silvio Narizzano which is based on the play of the same name by Joe Orton. It was entered into the 1971 Cannes Film Festival.

It stars Richard Attenborough as Inspector Truscott, Lee Remick as Nurse Fay McMahon, Hywel Bennett as Dennis, Toy Holder as Hal, and Milo O’Shea as Mr. McLeavy.   Also appearing were Dick Emery, Aubrey Woods (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory) and Robert Raglan (Fabian Of The Yard).
