No1_Single-03-29-19691969: Marvin Gaye went to No1 in the UK Singles Chart for 3 weeks with ‘I Heard It Through The Grapevine‘ [MarvinGayeVEVO YouTube Channel].  The song featured on Gaye’s album In the Groove, where it gained the attention of radio disc jockeys, and Motown founder Berry Gordy finally agreed to its release as a single in October 1968.  It went Silver.


No1_Single-03-29-19861986: Cliff Richard twice took Living Doll [Comic Relief YouTube Channel] to No1 in the UK Singles Chart. First with The Shadows (then still The Drifters) in 1959 and then, in 1986, with anarchic TV favourites The Young Ones for Comic Relief for 3 weeks.  Hank Marvin made an appearance on the Gold certified record.


 The Hits Album 4 aka Hits 4 [Night Of The Trailers YouTube Channel] followed The Hits Album and Hits 2 at the top of the UK Album Chart.  It was No1 for 4 weeks and went Platinum, and it featured tracks by artists on CBS, WEA and RCA Ariola.  Included on the double compilation album were four UK No1 singles, The Sun Always Shines on TV by A-ha, I’m Your Man by Wham!, Chain Reaction by Diana Ross and West End Girls by Pet Shop Boys.
